6 steps forward of "boss"

admin January 06, 2023

Times may not be favorable in 2022, but don't let your goals and determination fail. These 6 steps will make it easier to set goals and achieve them, maybe even a lifelong solution.

Achieving your dreams and living the life you love is not something everyone can do.  Especially for novice managers - there are so many new responsibilities that you lose your balance and forget to focus on the important goal throughout. Try to see if the path suggested by below works for you.

1. Deeply desired goal or solution

As Napoleon Hill, in his book "Think Rich and Grow Rich," said: "The starting point of all achievement is DESIRE. Remember this often. Weak desires bring weak results, just like a small flame produces a small amount of heat.”

So the first step in setting goals and achieving your dream is to really, really aspire to achieve it.

2. Visualize yourself achieving your goal

According to American car manufacturer Lee Iacocca, who revived the Chrysler Corporation, "The greatest discovery of my generation is that people can change their lives by changing their attitudes of mind."

So from now on, imagine: What will your results look like?  How could your life turn out differently with each job achievement you achieved?

Set victory milestones with visuals: an item, a trip or a project… Setting a visual goal will help you remember it every day. If you can't visualize your goal yourself, the likelihood of achieving it will be dim.

3. Make a roadmap to achieve the goal

Identify the steps that require action. Identify a possible route. Identify the milestones that need to be achieved on that path – certain things that must happen if the goal is to be realized.

As Stephen Covey - author of "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" - "Everything is created twice. Spiritual creation is the first and material creation is the second. You have to make sure that the first design is really what you want and has thought through it. Then you arrange the bricks and mortar. Every day, you go to the office - the construction site and look at the blueprints to determine what to do for the day."

4. Commit to achieving your goal by putting it on paper

Still according to Lee Iacocca: "Writing down a goal is the first step to making it a reality".

So to kickstart a goal, write down a plan, action steps, and roadmap. It's like you're making a deeper commitment to yourself. The black and white paper is so clear you can't justify the lack of effort. There are people who pull a goal sheet from their desk drawer after many years, only to find that they have achieved them. Clearly written down goals will give you persistence.

5. Check your progress regularly

Whatever tool you use (an online calendar, a personal note-taking app, or a handwritten list, etc.), be sure to check your progress regularly. The familiar effective process is: starting a new day by reviewing goals, creating a timetable, or taking action steps towards a set goal. If that day you encounter obstacles, not even accomplishing anything, do not let pessimism stop you.

On the other hand, no matter how optimistic you are, you need to recognize your own shortcomings and limitations. Consider all the factors that are preventing you from achieving your goals and make a plan for improvement. Add them to the roadmap as part of the plan.

6. Adjust the plan if progress slows down

It is important that you see yourself making progress. If necessary, ask relatives or seniors in the profession to help analyze why you have not achieved your goal. Don't let your aspiration be 'sink', but acknowledge the holes that keep you from being able to fulfill it.

And no matter how long you start working on it, you need to review the previous 5 steps, to see again: it is still a goal that you deeply desire. The more you need it, the more motivated you will feel in the face of any objective hindrance.

The key thing

These 6 goal-setting steps may seem like pure theory, but what they do is the first element of success: your mind. If you have the determination to make your dreams come true, you will have the life of your dreams. Enjoy the journey.
