I like employees who are looking for a project to work on rather than simply looking for a job. We look for people who want to be part of a great team, not people who see us as just a stepping stone in their careers,” shared CEO Daniel Schwartz.
Daniel Schwartz is the CEO of the world famous fast food chain Burger King, Tim Hortons and Popeyes. Becoming a leader at the age of 32, Schwartz quickly rose through the company to important roles. Running a multi-billion dollar company from a very young age proved Schwartz's ability. It was the result of both his intellect and his efforts. But for this young CEO, when interviewing candidates, there is one quality he values most.
“When interviewing for positions in the company, I always ask candidates: Do you think you are smart enough to get the job done or willing to work hard? And surprisingly, a lot of people answered: I don't have to work too hard, because I'm smart enough. I think this is a somewhat self-pretentious answer. You need to know that being humble is very important.
I also like people who are willing to do whatever work is required. They aspire to join the company. I had the same attitude at the beginning of my career. I don't care what I do, I just want to be involved in interesting projects and work with great people."
Schwartz adds that he is looking for hard-working and humble candidates: “Possibly the biggest influence my parents had on me was teaching me to always respect others. My parents did not lead any organization, but they always emphasized kindness and good manners. They are simply good people.
I always keep that in mind, respecting the person I'm talking to. The world is very big, but also very small, life is short and you should be kind to everyone you meet. At work, I never get angry, never raise my voice to others."
Schwartz shared, he would choose a candidate with passion, persistence with the work and especially a humble, confident but not arrogant person.
For those who are looking for a job and a way to assert themselves, especially fresh graduates, Schwartz advises: “The first thing you need to do is work hard, don't ask for too much. You will be exposed to many people with different personalities and qualifications. Learn the best from the person you admire and know how to get rid of the bad traits.”
When talking about the qualities of a leader, Schwartz shared that: “If a leader wants to change something or really influence others, you need to put yourself in their shoes, in their shoes. next to them. You cannot run a multinational company sitting at a desk. Running a company isn't as simple as making a phone call and asking someone else to do it differently."
With the above sharing, hopefully can help your company in the process of finding talented people. Good luck.
